I believe I mentioned this to Caitlyn in DMs before, but the most extra special perk I can think of would be the option of either a meet-and-greet/VIP experience at an upcoming concert *OR* a 30 min casual video call with Michael just to say hi and chat about whatever!
Letting folks pick an option based on show proximity and/or ability to attend a concert seems really nice and accommodating!! There's a lot of neurodivergent folk in the community and often that doesn't mix with super loud places/large crowds.
As far as other perks in general, I do love the idea of song stems/instrumentals, behind-the-scenes tidbits into Michael's creative process...I can also second the idea of some kind of exclusive swag, it feels like it'd be really cool to have a unique t-shirt that you can only get by being a paid subscriber 😎
Customized and/or signed merch too...I'm recalling when Michael did those little custom drawings and messages on a set of vinyls around the time Kindred was released and those were hidden around or given away! Something like that also might be worthwhile!!
It's honestly almost so hard to think of stuff, because the community itself is such a big perk to the Substack, and whatever Michael feels like giving us feels like enough to me already 😂🖤
Yeah, I feel greedy suggesting these things because this community is so awesome at the moment. It's enough for now, but I would sell my first born if the perks were right for the FFL tier...
I'd hope - selfishly - that things like signed vinyls might be open to all paid subs, not just the highest tier. Perhaps high tier folks can get a discount on them?
I missed out on the top tier when it was cheaper, I'm now in on the basic tier. I'd be willing to save up but $705 is a phenomenal amount of money to drop. I guess, my only suggestion would be, that it truly is special to sign up to the highest tier. I can't specify how, I'm not sure, I'm also not sure how much energy can be spent on the highest tier alone without making the other tiers feel too left out. At a cost like that, it has to knock your socks off, though. I hope it isn't rude for me to say that, I don't mean it to be.
I also agree to the careful balance of having the highest tier be truly remarkable, without the lower tiers being too left out especially in times as trying as these
There's so many supporters, (fellow artists, musicians, and creatives among them) who are hurting so badly right now in this economy/political climate, but they may be among the most passionate about Passion Pit!
Obviously, one can't do everything for free nor should that be expected of anyone...and at the same time, I don't think ALL of the coolest stuff and the best bonuses should always be exclusive to the wealthiest people -- I think there's a way to give everyone something special and meaningful, whether they can only give $5 or $5000, it's just a matter of deciding something both fair to Michael, fair to the subscribers, and feasible (wish I had like...actual suggestions instead of an opinion piece, so sorry 😂😭)
I missed out, too. I was like $160 (or something), I can totally swing that after I get paid for a commission. Gonna have to pick up a few more now haha
Not sure about regular perks for subscribers, but if touring happens again, tickets, early access to pre-sale tickets, or something like a VIP experience? Vip like exclusive swag (eg limited edition posters, shirts, etc; meet and greets or an opportunity to get shit signed; early entry to venue get best spot (or in front of barricade??). Exclusive swag and signed shit would be cool for paid subscribers, too I guess.
Perhaps access to a discord server for chatting if it's too tedious on here. I dunno. I just collect a lot of large art posters and shirts from shows. I also like to get up close to build my band photography portfolio.
Ohhh maybe! I gotta do some housekeeping on discord because I am in way too many book clubs...
I was just spitballing what I find value in. Still Woozy did Goodie Bags for the Goodie Bag tour which included early entry. I thought that was pretty cool because who doesn't love a tote bag?? And I could go to the bathroom, buy shirts, buy a beer, and get back to my front/center spot before the GA people came in. And I was late (like always).
Files for all the stuff posted here would be neat instead of having to only listen on the app. For paid subscribers you could email them the files instead of leaving it in the post itself to make sure it's only accessed by paid subs.
For the $55 tier I think more than 1 stem request would be great too, so many amazing songs it's hard to pick just 1!
And lastly to go with the file request thing, it would be amazing to hear some of the SoundCloud stuff come back if that's alright (Click Pop Boom, Stop That, Emblems/Suddenly You, etc). And if there's any HQ version of All These Trees please post lol most of the uploads online are from 2010
As someone currently unemployed, and looking at a pretty grim economy especially for arts and cultural workers… the $80/yr ($55 usd) is pretty much my cap at the moment. I could maybe swing a little more like $100 (cad) max. I would potentially look at arts and cultural organizations membership tiers for price/benefit analysis. What can be offered and how that can tiered, and analyze current subscription trends - for this sub and others. That said there are many different affective and effective factors to be considered and analyzed.
A secret concert in the bigger cities would be cool! Or like after-party shows if there ends up being a tour(saw the insta story) although I'm speaking as someone who lives in Chicago where he always has to do a second date because it sells out 🥳 I was only able to afford the $55 tier though. I have a friend who makes band zines too and I'm part of a zine club, a zine made by the band would be really personal and cute. Printed ones are great and could be made more special but he could even make a digital version too. Maybe using excepts from journals or writing sessions or pictures

But maybe that'll help spark some ideas!!
Ooooof get out of my brain!! You named a few I had also compiled, with your original suggestion too 😉

bethababy...c'mon, bruh
Pfft. I said nothing about a baby.
gone
Beth, you are a savage!! 😹

Yeah absolutely!! My idea with the swag and merch is that everybody on every paid tier gets a lil something!

opinion piece of cake right here. thanks
Oh trust me we are aiming to make sure EACH tier feels heard 🤍

Clarifying for those reading my comment and asking: $444 US dollars is $705 Australian dollars. That's no small cost, that's like three weeks rent.
I feel you. It’s a lot for a Canadian too.

There's a fan made Discord with about 120 people in it, if you'd like the link. Just shoot me a DM.

That's a very good idea. On a trust system, of course... being able to download songs shared here instead of listening on Substack would be great.

@madeleine!! the latter sounds up your alley maybe, eh? 😉
Yeeeeeeeeep prince is picking up what we may or may not be putting down
but what I’m hearing is… you want a tour?! Is that correct? Can you say that a little bit louder please 🤭
